Degree of Comparative

Tujuan Pembelajaran:

• Memahami fungsi degree of comparison
• Membandingkan karakteristik benda, hewan dan orang

Sebelum lanjut ke materi degree of comparison, sebaiknya kita amati kembali contoh-contoh adjective yang digunakan untuk menjelaskan karakteristik/sifat dari orang, benda dan binatang pada materi kelas 7.

Perhatikan contoh dialog dibawah ini:

Anton    : Who do you think will win the football match between Indonesia vs England?
John       : I think England will win it because they are stronger than Indonesia.
Ana        : Yeah, you're right. England is stronger. Their player is also faster.

Anton dan John membandingkan kekuatan tim sepak bola Inggris dan Indonesia dengan menggunakan kata sifat strong dan fast dengan menambahkan imbuhan -er. Kalimat yang diungkapkan Anton dan John tersebut merupakan contoh dari degree of comparison.

Degree of Comparison digunakan untuk membandingkan sifat, karakteristik, atau keadaan suatu objek (benda, hewan dan binatang). Degree of Comparison terbagi atas 3 tingkatan yaitu:

• Positive Degree : Apa yang dibandingkan berada pada tingkat yang Sama/Sebanding.
  
• Comparative Degree : Salah satu berada pada tingkat yang Lebih dari yang lain
  
• Superlative Degree : Memiliki sifat Paling dari yang lainnya

Positive Degree

• Yola is as tall as Burhan.
  Yola setinggi Burhan.
• She is as beautiful as Rara.
  Dia sama pintarnya seperti Burhan.
  

Ciri kalimatnya menggunakan as + adjective + as

Comparative Degree

• Burhan is taller than Heri.
  Burhan lebih tinggi dari Heri.
• Yola is more beautiful than Lulu.
  Yola lebih cantik dari Lulu.
  

Ciri kalimatnya menggunakan adjective_er + than atau more+adjective (Jika lebih dari 2 sylabble)

Superlative Degree

• Anton is the tallest student in the class.
  Anton adalah yang paling tinggi di kelas.
• Anton is the most handsome student in the class.
  Anton adalah yang paling ganteng di kelas.
